Chris Hemsworth is going to be swimming with actual sharks this summer to prove that behind the rows of razor-sharp teeth, the world’s most feared creature is actually a big softie.

The Aussie actor, 37, – who wrapped up filming on the latest Thor movie this week – is launching Sharkfest on National Geographic WILD with his new documentary Shark Beach with Chris Hemsworth, following his own personal mission show us mere mortals that we can live more harmoniously with sharks.

Joined by conservationist Valerie Taylor, Chris will be diving with sharks to experience first hand the beauty and kind nature of nurse sharks and will be exploring the latest technology to help starve off shark-human encounters.

Sharkfest will kick off on July 12 with two weeks of programming, taking viewers up close and personal with perhaps the most misunderstood creature of the seas.

Expect plenty of footage of actual shark attacks and discover what happens when two of the world’s deadliest predators come face to face in Croc that ate Jaws.

‘The mysteries of the ocean’s most iconic predators are so vast, even with eight years of shark-focused content under our belt, there still remains more to be discovered,” says Janet Vissering, senior vice president of Development and Production, National Geographic Partners.

‘Like every year, shark scientists and oceanic experts have pulled out all the stops for this year’s SHARKFEST, revealing new discoveries, shocking revelations and bizarre shark behavior never seen before. It’s going to be jaw-some!’

Sharkfest launches July 12 on National Geographic Wild. Disney+ will also debut the best SHARKFEST programming from the previous eight seasons beginning 16 July.
