Eddie Hearn Unable to Secure Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk Yet: ‘If We Can’t, We’ll Move On’

The high-voltage undisputed title bout between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury has finally fallen through. That said, both the fighters will now have to win their next fights in order to contend with each other. Fury is already aligned with the ex-WBC champ, Deontay Wilder. Whereas, there are still dark clouds on Joshua’s next bout with Oleksandr Usyk.

Recently, ‘AJ’s promoter, Eddie Hearn provided an update on the Usyk vs Joshua fight. Speaking to iFL TV, he said, “Usyk is our preferred opponent, we want to hold onto the belts, but as I’ve seen in some interviews, there is a bit of tiredness of being told who to fight and what split they’re going to get and the inability to have flexibility in AJ’s schedule.”

Even the WBO has given an extension to Joshua and Usyk’s teams to book this fight, prior to this going to the purse bids. More than anyone else, Joshua is himself hungry to take on this fight as it’ll be one massive title defense fight for him, which if won, might line him up with ‘The Gypsy King’ again.

Even in his above statements, the Matchroom boss seemed dicey about if this fight will take place. But he still is optimistic about this heavy encounter coming to fruition in the near time.

What if the Anthony Joshua vs Oleksandr fight doesn’t take place?

If the Joshua vs Usyk fight falls through, then the Brit might have to vacate his WBO heavyweight title. Post that, he’ll have a string of opponents to touch gloves with.

Dillian Whyte, Andy Ruiz Jr., or Luis Ortiz might be the list of opponents against whom Joshua might go up next.

But vacating his WBO title will ultimately scrap his plans for the undisputed heavyweight title fight. That said, Joshua and his team should land upon a viable option that has a fruitful future and some exuberant opponents as well.

It’ll be intriguing to see how things between Joshua and Usyk’s team proceed further.
