Line of Duty’s Owen Teale still gets accused of being H after finale: ‘I’m defending myself down the shops’
Line of Duty star Owen Teale (Chief Constable Philip Osborne) has revealed he still gets accused of being H despite the mystery being very much solved in the series six finale.
To be fair, it would have made a lot of sense.
Some viewers were left a little underwhelmed by the final episode, which revealed that Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) was the fourth man involved in the police corruption mystery.
However, some fans have still got their beady eye on Owen.
‘I’m now defending myself in the shops, with people saying “I know you’re H,”‘ he told Radio Times.
‘And I go “No, no, no, no, wait a minute, we all know who H is now” and they go “No no no I don’t believe that for a second, there’s no way he would have had the power to do that. But your character was the original.”
‘And they remember it, right from the beginning. He was the guy who actually messed Steve Arnott, he messed with him, he bullied him and that’s why he jumped into AC-12, he jumped out of firearms.’
Ah, the power of Jed Mercurio.
The finale of the wildly popular BBC police drama was incredibly divisive, with some arguing that it was completely lacklustre, and others admiring writer Jed’s point about police corruption in the force.
Despite it being all anyone could take about for a good few weeks, some of the stars haven’t actually seen it.
Anna Maxwell Martin, who played the no-nonsense DCS Patricia Carmichael, explained: ‘My friends were quite mixed, some of them loved the ending because they felt it was open for new stuff.
‘I liked that it was Nigel [Boyle, who played Buckells], I’ve always thought he’s hilarious. I’ve been away filming and my TV in my hotel doesn’t work.’
Meanwhile, Tony Pitts, who played corrupt copper DCS Lester Hargreaves admitted he had decided to swerve the finale.
‘No, I never watch anything that I’m in,’ he simply told Metro.co.uk.
They were clearly some of the only ones that missed out though, as the drama, starring Martin Compston (Steve Arnott), Vicky McClure (Kate Fleming), and Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings) broke records with its viewership numbers.
The final episode was watched by an average of 12.8million viewers.
The BBC said it was the most watched episode of any drama since modern records began in 2002.
Line of Duty is available to watch on catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
