‘Put Myself in This Position’ – Rickie Fowler Wants to Redeem Himself at U.S. Open 2021

Rickie Fowler is striving hard to get back to the top of his game once again. Fowler’s form slump has been one of the most surprising phenomena in golf, but he’s doing everything to return to the top. As of now, Fowler’s participation at the U.S. Open 2021 hangs in uncertainty as he has to go through qualifying first. 

You know a player is not in good form when he misses a major championship for the first time in a decade. That’s exactly what Fowler faced as he failed to qualify for the 2021 Masters, thus ending a streak of 43 consecutive majors played. 

Rickie Fowler, however, qualified for the 2021 PGA Championship and achieved a solid T8 finish at Kiawah Island. It also marked the 32-year-old’s best performance this season in 18 starts. 

As the U.S. Open 2021 is right up ahead, Fowler was asked if he feels any different to have to go through qualifying. 

Rickie Fowler is ready to redeem himself

It’s been a while since Rickie Fowler won a PGA Tour event. His last victory came at the 2019 Waste Management Phoenix Open and has only finished inside the Top 10 nine times in more than 40 starts since then. 

Fowler, who is currently competing at the 2021 Memorial Tournament, was asked about U.S. Open 2021 final qualifying after his Round 1 performance. The California native responded to a question if he feels strange having to go through qualifying in order to seal a spot at Torrey Pines this year. 

“No, not really. I’ve done it before, been there a handful of times, yeah, it’s been a quite a few years, but no, it wasn’t something I was like necessarily bummed out about, I put myself in this position. So we got a tee time on Monday, let’s go qualify and get our spot at Torrey Pines,” Fowler expressed. 

“And so, no, it wasn’t anything like — yeah, I would like to just be in the U.S. Open, but we have been in this position before, so go take care of it,” he added. 

While Rickie Fowler has never won the U.S. Open, he finished T2 in 2014. As for last year, Fowler finished T49 after four rounds at Winged Foot. Do you think Fowler will qualify for U.S. Open 2021 at Torrey Pines?
