Rafael Nadal on the Verge to Break Jimmy Connors’ All-Time Grand Slam Record at French Open 2021

World No.3 Rafael Nadal recently defeated Richard Gasquet in the third round of the French Open 2021. The Spaniard once again dominated the entire match and thrashed the Frenchman in straight sets. The final scoreline of the match was 6-0, 7-5, 6-2.

It appears that Rafael Nadal no longer chases records but records chase him. These days, his every victory creates some new records and now again, he is on the verge of achieving a spectacular feat at the French Open 2021.

Rafa managed to bagel Gasquet in the first set of their encounter. It was his 21st bagel at the French Open and now he is just a single bagel behind Jimmy Connors’ incredible record.

Connors managed 22 bagels at the US Open in his entire career- which is the most by any player at any ATP event including Grand Slams. If Nadal manages to bagel one of his opponents in the remaining five matches of the French Open 2021, he’ll equal the record of Connors. If he manages two bagels, he’ll surpass him and will create history.

Rafael Nadal has 11 bagels each at Monte Carlo Masters and Barcelona Open

Apart from the French Open, Nadal has also bageled his opponents on 11 occasions each at the Monte Carlo Masters and at the Barcelona Open. This is the highest for any player at the Monte Carlo Masters and the second-highest for anyone at the Barcelona Open. Therefore, when it comes to playing at clay, he is definitely the ‘King’ and these numbers are a testimony to that fact.

While Nadal has the maximum bagels at the French Open, it is Roger Federer who has bageled his opponents the most times (17) at the Australian Open. Interestingly, it is Connors again who leads the list with 12 bagels at the Wimbledon Championships.

Rafael Nadal will next play against Cameron Norrie in the third round of the French Open 2021. He has won 30 straight matches at the tournament so far and looks in some amazing form at the moment. Will he be able to conquer Paris for the 14th time this year?
