The ongoing Warhammer festival has seen a bunch of new game announcements and updates, chief amongst them being a Chaos Gate sequel.
Despite only just starting yesterday, and set to run until June 10, the Warhammer Skulls event has already made a lot (and we mean a lot) of game announcements related to the Warhammer franchise. But perhaps the biggest one so far has been the sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate.
Chaos Gate was a turn-based strategy game for PC in 1998 and involved fighting against the forces of the Chaos Lord Zymran. It received strong reviews at the time but never saw a follow-up in the near 25 years since it launched.
The announcement trailer for Chaos Gate – Daemon Hunters doesn’t reveal any gameplay and is entirely CGI, but it will remain a turn-based strategy game and will release for PC in 2022. More information, including another trailer, will be shared in August.
Aside from that, a final piece of DLC was unveiled for Total War: Warhammer 2, alongside another trailer for the sequel which is confirmed to feature Skarbrand as a legendary lord.
The fantasy themed Age Of Sigmar series got three new tie-in game announcements: a VR game titled Tempestfall, a mobile auto battler named Soul Arena, and a strategy game called Stormground. That last one is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
There’s a second VR game as well, that’s already available for Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest, called Warhammer 40,000: Battle Sister. Plus, digital card game Warhammer Underworlds: Online is free on Steam until June 10. Download it before then and you get to keep it.
Co-op game Vermintide 2 is receiving new DLC, namely a new magic-based career for the character of Kerillian (who’s apparently the most popular character in the game), while mobile strategy game Lost Crusade is now available to play in the United States, after already releasing in Europe, Russia, and Australia.
The upcoming first person action game Darktide also received an update, specifically that comic book writer Dan Abnett is working on it. Abnett already has experience with the franchise, having written multiple novels set within the Warhammer universe.
First-person shooter Necromunda: Hired Gun saw a release trailer, and is available now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. And speaking of spin-offs, fantasy football game Blood Bowl 3 is holding a closed beta which you can sign up for on the official website. It will enter early access on Steam in the autumn before launching on all major platforms in early 2022.
Another Warhammer 40,000 turn-based strategy game, Battlesector, is due out in July for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms, and turn-based dungeon crawler Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower is now available on PC. It launched on mobile last year and is receiving a free campaign expansion and a cross-platform save feature.
A more cartoony (but no less violent) 2D action platform shooter called Shootas, Blood & Teef is in development for consoles and PC. And some more Warhammer games are all receiving new content in the near future, namely strategy games Gladius – Relics Of War and Mechanicus, online multiplayer game Chaos & Conquest, and aerial shooter Dakka Squadron.
And lastly, collaboration events with World Of Tanks and World Of Warships will run for the duration of the festival until June 10, where you can take control of tanks and ships from the Warhammer universe.
If you’re somehow not overwhelmed from all these announcements, you can find more in-depth details on everything reveal so far on the official website.
