Michaela Coel could have a very special night ahead of her at the 2021 Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards as her hit drama I May Destroy You is in the running for some big prizes.

The BBC programme, which discusses sexual consent in the landscape of modern dating, has won critical acclaim earned her a Screen Actors Guild nod.

At today’s Baftas it has racked up an impressive eight nominations, including leading actress for the star, leading actor for Paapa Essiedu, supporting actress for Weruche Opia and best mini-series.

Michaela dressed accordingly for such a big night, walking the red carpet with a sophisticated, sleek look.

The writer wore her black hair short and smoothed backwards into an elegant bob which complimented her natural makeup.

Her dress for the night was a floorlength black gown with orange sleeves adding a burst of colour, and a split down the middle of the torso to tease some cleavage. She posed with her back to the cameras as well so we can get the full effect of the backless dress.

A thick gold chain, gold rings on each finger and the garment’s slight train finished her Baftas look off nicely.

Whether she takes home a Bafta or not, she already gets an award for her red carpet style, which she has nailed over the years since her comedy Chewing Gum.

She was joined on the star-studded red carpet by the likes of Claudia Winkleman, Oti Mabuse, Daisy May Cooper and Paul Mescal.

Elsewhere at the Baftas, Small Axe, The Crown and Normal People are leading the charge in the nominations.

Among the first time Bafta nominees are Normal People’s Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar-Jones, I May Destroy You’s Weruche Opia and Small Axe’s Shaun Parkes.
