Demi Jones has revealed that she announced her cancer diagnosis on social media before telling her family.

The Love Island star revealed she had thyroid cancer last month after undergoing surgery to remove a large lump from her neck

However, it has emerged that Demi, 22, announced the devastating news of her diagnosis on Instagram before informing her family first.

In a new interview with Zeze Millz, the reality star revealed: ‘When I first found out it could be cancerous, I was in shock and I was crying because I went on social media, and I shouldn’t have done that because I hadn’t even told my family yet.’

She admitted: ‘I don’t even know why, I can’t even tell you because my head was scrambled and I was like “Oh my God, guys!”’

In her Instagram post announcing her diagnosis, Demi wrote: ‘Hi guys, I got my results today and unfortunately I have thyroid cancer.

‘The tumour has been removed but I’m now due to have more surgery to remove the rest of my thyroid.

‘I’m staying very positive and I’m a strong girl so I’ll be fine, thank you for your love and support always. I’ll bounce back stronger.’

She added: ‘Check your lumps.’

Demi had surgery in April to remove a lump which was said to be the size of a golf ball.

Although she’s received an overwhelming amount of support from fans, Demi revealed some trolls have accused her of lying about having cancer

In one of her latest Instagram posts, the reality star proudly showed the scar on her neck from the surgery which was praised by followers.

Elsewhere in the trailer for her interview with Zeze, which is released tonight, Demi explained how Love Island changed her life, saying: ‘As soon as you walk into that villa that’s it. Your life changes, everyone changes towards you. There’s some weird hatred towards Love Island. I don’t know what it is.’

Without revealing names, Demi then said she hadn’t heard from someone in the villa she was particularly close with.

‘I don’t know, it’s weird because we were so close in the villa to then come out and then just zero contact,’ she said in the teaser.
