Serena Williams to Skip Wimbledon Championships Warm-Ups After French Open 2021 Exit

World No.8 Serena Williams suffered a humiliating defeat in the fourth round of the French Open 2021. Playing against Elena Rybakina, the 23-time Grand Slam champion never looked comfortable during the match. Even though she tried to fight back, the Kazakh player maintained her dominance throughout the match. The final scoreline of the match was 3-6, 5-7.

It looks like Serena Williams will have to wait a little longer for her 24th Grand Slam title. Interestingly, with her exit, only two of the top 10 WTA players are now remaining at the French Open 2021.

In the post-match interview, Williams talked about her future and the upcoming grass-court season after Roland Garros 2021. She claimed that even though she is excited to switch surfaces, she would not be playing any warm-up grass-court tournaments before the Wimbledon Championships 2021.

“I’m excited to switch surfaces. But I don’t think I will play another warm-up tournament on grass (before Wimbledon),” said Williams in the interview.

Due to the postponement of the French Open 2021 by one week, the gap between the major and Wimbledon 2021 is now reduced to just three weeks. In such a situation, players will get much less time to practice for the next Grand Slam.

“I’ll go home and then be back”- Serena Williams

Williams revealed that she would go to her home in the United States and will then return for the Wimbledon Championships 2021. However, she is not that sure about the quarantine protocols as of now.

“Possibly I’ll go home and then be back (in Europe). But not sure about the quarantine,” added the 3-time French Open champion.

Even though she got eliminated in the fourth round, Serena will surely be proud of the way she played in Paris. After going through a rough season on clay, she bounced back and exhibited some great skills at Roland Garros 2021.

Serena Williams is 39 right now and thus, fans suspect that she might not play at the French Open next year. However, they still have high expectations from her and want her to outperform her opponents at Wimbledon 2021. Will she be able to win her 24th major this year?
