Teofimo Lopez Opens Up on His Relationship with Top Rank, Gives Update on Potential Josh Taylor Fight

The undefeated face of the lightweight division, Teofimo Lopez is all charged up to enter the squared circle on June 19. In this fight, Lopez will make his first prime title defense against a resilient challenger in George Kambosos Jr. This fight is extremely important for the American boxer in order to put an exclamation mark on his boxing run.

Recently, Lopez interacted with Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports. Here, he talked about his relationship with Top Rank Promotions and the possibility of a Josh Taylor fight.

“You know, that’s a good way to put it out there. You know, we’re right now at the moment we’re pretty much on talking terms. We’re in talking stages right now, Top Rank and I and with my manager, David McWater. They’re in the talks.”

“In reality, if they wanna make big bucks, can let put these promoters like to do, you know, make big bucks,” he said.

‘The Takeover’s promoter, Bob Arum, failed to win the bid for Lopez vs Kambosos Jr. fight. As a result, the contest went to Triller who bid a whopping $6 million. With that, it seemed the relationship between Lopez and his promotion team deteriorated. But both of them don’t seem to have any rift for now.

Moving further, Lopez even wishes to fight the undisputed super-lightweight champion, Josh Taylor. And in his above statement, he revealed that the potential talks for that bout are in contention.

Teofimo Lopez vs Josh Taylor – Is there any chance of this fight happening in 2021?

Both Lopez and Taylor are undefeated stalwarts in their divisions. Over the course of their careers, they’ve fairly proven their class to one and all. However, the future of their fight depends on Lopez’s upcoming bout with ‘Ferocious’.

Even if Lopez registers a win in this fight, the probabilities of his next bout happening with Taylor are slim. This is because the latter has prolific plans of moving up to the welterweight division. Considering that, it’ll be interesting to see how things shape up for this pair in the coming few days.

What do you make of ‘The Takeover’s above-mentioned comments? Do you envision Lopez vs Taylor happening anytime soon? Will Top Rank promote the fight?
