OFF THE CHARTS! Coco Gauff Steamrolls Over Ons Jabeur to Reach Maiden Slam Quarterfinals at French Open 2021 in 53 Minutes

American teenage sensation, Coco Gauff reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal after beating Tunisian, Ons Jabeur in the fourth round of the French Open 2021. Gauff finished off the match in 53 minutes with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-1.

Gauff will next play her first Grand Slam quarterfinal against Barbora Krejcikova. Krejcikova herself defeated former US Open champion and Roland Garros finalist, Sloane Stephens in 1 hour and 7 minutes with a scorecard of 6-2, 6-0.

Coco Gauff’s blistering start against Ons Jabeur at French Open 2021

Gauff was swiftly making a mark in the match. She was already a break up and by 3-0, Jabeur had accumulated seven unforced errors. For Jabeur her strong forehand wasn’t working early on as Gauff was sharp and wasn’t taking any risks.

Gauff had taken a 4-1 lead as Jabeur started to establish a rhythm. The Tunisian was innovative as she used her forehand to attack. She even played a few drop shots to her advantage. But Gauff’s service was perfect in the first set as she fired from her backhand and forehand to serve for the set at 5-3. Gauff didn’t hesitate as she produced her best service game to take the set, 6-3.

Gauff started off the second set brilliantly. Jabeur had a bad start with a double fault and was instantly behind. Coco Gauff’s tactical play with her angled forehand earned her a break in the first game. That one blip helped her to take a 2-0 lead. Jabeur at times looked solid, but Gauff was perfect in all departments and hence the American was 3-1 up.

Gauff was just on fire as she was 4-1 up with a second break in the second set. Ons Jabeur was visibly upset with herself as she tried her best to salvage something. The Tunisian led Gauff in the aces department, as well as the double faults as Gauff was looking to end the match soon. Gauff saw three of her match points saved on Jabeur’s serve at 5-1. The American converted her fourth match point to reach the quarterfinals at Roland Garros – 6-3, 6-1.
