“Pulled the Trigger and Had Surgery”: Eugenie Bouchard Announces Miserable News Ahead of Wimbledon Championships 2021
Canadian player and former world number five, Eugenie Bouchard, has recently announced that she underwent a right-shoulder surgery after an injury suffered at the WTA Monterrey Open earlier this year.
A former runner-up at Wimbledon Championships, the Canadian’s career has been a roller-coaster ride with a series of injuries affecting her game play more often than not. Bouchard admitted that she has been dealing with pain in her right-shoulder since 2020, and the injury she suffered at Monterrey aggravated the situation further.

Eugenie Bouchard informed her fans about the arthroscopic surgery she had last week
In a message posted on twitter, the Canadian informed her fans about the arthroscopic surgery she had last week.
“This past March, I tore my Subscapularis in my first round match in Guadalajara. Since then, I have tried every form of conservative treatment known to man, to no avail. So last week, I pulled the trigger and had arthroscopic surgery”, wrote Bouchard.

The Canadian first rose to stardom when she reached the semi-finals of the 2014 Australian Open ,after defeating Ana Ivanovic in the quarters. She lost to Li Na in the semi-finals. A few months later, at the French Open, Bouchard defeated the likes of Angelique Kerber and Carla Suarez Navarro. Her semi-final run was halted by the eventual champion, Maria Sharapova.
Eugenie Bouchard had a memorable Wimbledon run the same year, but lost to Petra Kvitova in the finals. Her last title came at the WTA Auckland Open in 2019, where she partnered with current world number five, Sofia Kenin.
Having started her career with a bang, Bouchard consistently struggled to find top gear over the past few years as injuries only added fuel to the fire. An aggressive baseliner, the Canadian has the potential to defeat top players on any surface.
But, the current crop of top players on the WTA tour possess diverse skills and never faced Eugenie Bouchard so far in their careers. As the 2014 Wimbledon runner-up works on rehab, her return to the WTA tour remains a big question ahead of the grass-court season.
