A Place In The Sun presenter Laura Hamilton was rushed to hospital after she had a bad reaction to her second coronavirus jab.

The host shared a snap as she recovered in A&E, wearing a black face mask for the hospital visit.

Taking to Instagram, the 39-year-old explained that she developed ‘blood spots’ after the injection, and wanted to get checked out to be safe as she suffers from ITP – Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura.

The Medical Healthcare Products and Regulatory Agency has reiterated that the benefits of vaccines outweigh the risks for most people, while Prime Minister Boris Johnson and medical director of primary care at NHS England Dr Nikita Kanani also assured people they are safe.

‘Was supposed to be @corinthialondon for a Breast Cancer Afternoon Tea…,’ she captioned the post on her story.

‘Instead I’m in A&E after a bad reaction to the second Covid jab! #ITP @concordemedialondon.’

In another story, Laura heaped praise on the staff who had helped her, penning: ‘Thank you for your kind well wishes! The NHS really are AMAZING!

‘I developed a few blood spots after my second Covid jab and to be safe (because of my ITP) I was advised to go to hospital.

‘I’ve had blood tests and checks and been given the all clear!’

Laura didn’t share what jab she had been given, and added the hashtags: ‘#amazingnhs #besafe #itp.’

ITP is an autoimmune condition which causes the body’s immune system ‘to destroy platelets’.

Without enough platelets in blood, people ‘are likely to bruise easily, or may be unable to stop bleeding’ if they get a cut.

As with all vaccination programmes, a small number of people may have an adverse reaction – although rarely anything worse than a mild case of the virus itself.

Laura’s post comes after she returned from Portugal – where she flew to film new episodes for A Place In The Sun.

The star shared a snap as she prepared to jet away, sharing her gratitude at being able to travel abroad amid the pandemic.

‘Feeling VERY grateful this morning as I fly to Lisbon (a first) to start filming again with @aplaceinthesunofficial,’ she captioned the post – showing her with a suitcase in tow.

‘I’ll be helping a lovely couple find a home on the Costa da Caparica and I can’t wait to meet them later for our House Hunter drinks.

‘Thank you to everyone who has continued to support the show not just over the last 12 months but since it began. It wouldn’t be as successful as it is without YOU!

‘Also a BIG shoutout to the amazing production team and @channel4 who are making this happen.’

A Place In The Sun airs on weekdays, at 4pm, on Channel 4.
