Daniel Ricciardo Optimistic F1 Triple Header Will ‘Fast-Track’ McLaren Progress

Daniel Ricciardo is yet to fully sync up with his new team, McLaren. He has failed to finish inside the top 5 till now but hopes to find his form soon. The 31-year-old believes the triple-header scheduled in the coming weeks will give him the chance to do exactly that.

The Azerbaijan GP wasn’t Ricciardo’s race, as he crashed out in Q2 and had to start from 13th on the grid. However, there was a small ray of hope for Ricciardo as he finished in ninth and earned the Woking-based outfit two points.

Daniel Ricciardo sees the triple-header as an opportunity to improve his form

The triple-header, which will kick off on June 20, consists of the French GP and two rounds in Austria. While most drivers dislike triple-headers because of the fatigue they bring, Ricciardo believes that the back-to-back races will allow his to get “into a rhythm.”

As quoted by PlanetF1, he said, “I’m looking forward to the triple-header actually, getting into a rhythm, three races in a row.

“Bit more conventional, bit more run-off room, it won’t do us any harm. I guess when you are trying to learn any sport, the best way to learn is practice and doing it.”

He added, “And obviously the unique thing with our sport is that we can’t do it every day, we can’t just go out tomorrow and run a few laps. So I think having three consecutive weekends, putting in the practice consecutively, will kind of fast-track my progress.”

“Obviously we have the simulator and these things help. But again simulator the walls don’t hurt, so it’s never quite the same,” the Australian concluded.

How’s the Woking-based outfit doing this season?

The Papaya team currently hold fourth place in the constructors’ standings with 92 points to their name. A majority of those points were scored by Lando Norris; the young Brit, who seems to be in form, achieved a podium in Italy and Monaco.

His teammate Ricciardo is yet to find his feet behind the wheel of the Mercedes-powered car. With back-to-back races coming up, this will give ample time for the seven-time Grand Prix winner to bounce back.
