Former Champion Hikaru Shida Reveals her New Look on AEW Dark: Elevation
At AEW Double or Nothing, Hikaru Shida suffered her first loss in nearly a year against Britt Baker. She dropped the AEW Women’s Title, a championship she elevated and made important, but the loss was devastating. Now, Shida unveiled a new hairdo which might signal a change in personality.
New hairstyle for former champion Hikaru Shida
Hikaru Shida was AEW’s top female performer in 2020. Her title defenses stunned the wrestling world as she beat all comers. However, she lost the belt when she ran into a brick wall names Britt Baker, the fastest rising talent in the world right now.
Despite Shida’s popularity and work with the title, she needed to drop it to Baker and give her the big win she deserved. She herself slid down the card as she wrestled on AEW Dark: Elevation, the promotion’s free web show on YouTube.
Shida wrestled Diamante, another rising talent in AEW, and beat her dominantly. The Latina threw everything she had at the former Women’s Champion, but Shida’s restored confidence allowed her to blaze past Diamante and chart her course back towards the AEW Women’s Championship.
The haircut received compliments from Paul Wight and Tony Schiavone on commentary, who are killing it as usual. Also on the show, Jade Cargill, Scorpio Sky, Santana & Ortiz and the Dark Order picked up wins.

What’s next for her?
Losing a title you held for over a year is a tough thing to deal with. If you’re Hikaru Shida, you’d be positively devastated at the loss at Double or Nothing. But we witnessed a Shida whose confidence was somewhat restored in a decent performance against Diamante.
Diamante is no slouch, but the match on Elevation wasn’t a squash either. The Latina took the fight to the Japanese sensation, including a few very close nearfalls. Despite the win, Shida still has a long way to go to get back on the top of the AEW mountain.
AEW has filled their female locker room to the brim with talent, and they have a great heel champion too. With names like Riho, Nyla Rose, Thunder Rosa and Jade Cargill, the division has never looked so competitive before. Keeping in mind Serena Deeb who dropped her NWA Women’s Championship this weekend might also permanently move to AEW.
