Khloe Kardashian claps back after ‘hypocrite’ backlash for criticising plastic water bottle users
Khloe Kardashian has responded after being branded a ‘hypocrite’ for criticising those who use plastic water bottles.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star had earlier shared Instagram story videos slamming those who pour ‘four or five’ plastic water bottles into a sustainable one, which she branded wasteful and detrimental to the environment as they could have used tap water with a filter.
However, social media users quickly pointed out Khloe’s own plastic use from water bottles to containers in her kitchen as evidence that she hasn’t been so eco-friendly herself in the past.
Many also shared screenshots of the extravagant balloon displays Khloe and her family often put up for parties – of course, balloons can be damaging for the environment through polluting the ocean and being swallowed by animals.
In response to the mounting backlash, Khloe tweeted on Monday night: ‘Oh my! LOL What drives me [mad] is that people turn nothing into some thing. It must be a slow news day. I am constantly learning and trying to be better for the environment for the sake of my daughter.
‘I am the last one to say that I’m super environmentally conscious because I know how much more I have to learn.
All I was simply saying is a pet peeve of mine. I find it silly that people are pouring 4 to 5 single use plastic bottles into a reusable container. It’s [sic] sort of defeats the purpose.’
She continued: ‘I was trying to provide a suggestion such as a water filtration system that you can buy easily for the price of a case of water bottles. Sometimes plastic water bottles are the only option for some people and I totally get that.’
Khloe, 36, admitted to her own misgivings and said sometimes a plastic water bottle is just ‘what I grab’ adding that she’s not trying to be ‘perfect’ but wants to learn and ‘hopefully make small changes for our future’.
‘Anyways I love when I get educated on easy tips as to how to potentially make a change in our world. Feel free to tweet me some tips,’ the reality star said.
‘I’m always down to learn and I’ll see how that incorporates into my life. Hopefully We all do our part in our own ways. I’m proud of us all for doing our best and simply trying. But these stories sayin I’m shaming peps is BS because I’m a baby at this stuff myself.’
Khloe has recently started somewhat of a challenge with her Instagram followers after buying a gallon-sized water bottle which she consumes daily, and encouraging others to do the same to keep well hydrated.
However, she’s noticed the excessive plastic water bottle usage and got it off her chest in an early morning rant.
In her earlier comments, she said: ‘So many people tag me in these huge gallon sized jugs of water and I feel awesome because I know people are staying hydrated.
‘There’s something that irks me is that I see people taking water bottles and they’re just pouring it into the gallon size reusable plastic bottle so they can consume their water for the day. That defeats the purpose because those water bottle are just going to go into a landfill somewhere and potentially cause you know pollution.’
The Good American boss added: ‘We’re trying to limit our single usage of plastics, so I think people should just be aware of that. The point of this is yes to stay hydrated, but also to hopefully reduce you know all the pollution.
‘That is a lot smarter than buying cases of waters,’ she said. ‘If you’re going to be using reusable jugs like I am, and if not every day … I get it. Sometimes we need to grab a water bottle.
‘I’m not saying that or judging that, I’m just saying that I don’t know why we’re pouring water bottles and using … just to throw that plastic away for these jugs. So, I’m turning into Kourtney, but let’s try to save the environment for the kids.’
