WWE Raw results, grades: Alexa Bliss and Lilly terrorise Shayna Baszler in wild horror movie ending
WWE Raw ended on a very unusual note as Alexa Bliss truly channelled The Fiend with a horror movie attack on Shayna Baszler.
It’s a storyline bound to divide fans depending on how far they can suspend their disbelief when it comes to the likes of Bliss and Bray Wyatt’s characters.
For those who can accept the entertainment value, it was a unique and intriguing end to a show packed with good in-ring action.
In the main event segment, Alexa and Lilly were in their playground as the Queen of Spades joined them in the ring.
Baszler knocked over the rocking horse and refused to apologise to the doll, instead blaming Bliss for Reginald’s accidents, and for costing Shayna and Nia Jax their tag team titles.
Of course, the sinister star denied any wrongdoing and instead called again for an apology, but the former NXT Champion instead decided to beat up Lilly – which was a bad idea.
The ThunderDome started to glitch, with flames erupting on the stage as Baszler tried to escape, and she narrowly avoided disaster as a box and piece of the set both nearly fell on her.
She looked for somewhere to hide, and eventually blockaded herself in a locked room with furniture piled by the door.
However, she saw Lilly in the mirror behind her, only for the creepy doll to be gone when she turned round.
She reappeared, but Shayna booted the mirror, smashing it and bringing the show to a surreal end as she screamed out when Lilly reared her head for a third time.
Viking Raiders and Mansoor win big, Jaxson Ryker beats Elias, Ricochet and Humberto Carrillo make waves
The night kicked off with RK-Bro, The New Day, Mace and T-Bar, The Viking Raiders and Lince Dorado (on his own because Gran Metalik has an injury) out for the Number One Contenders battle royal.
AJ Styles and Omos cut a promo on the competition before John Morrison – brilliantly wheeling out The Miz – announced he was also competing in the match.
The match was a tonne of fun even with JoMo and Dorado eliminated early on, and Viking Raiders were a nice surprise as winners.
Elias explained his decision to abandon Jaxson Ryker, whom WWE seem keen on having as a babyface – whether that works when live crowds return is another matter.
Anyway, they had a short and unmemorable match ending when the busker ran away from his former tag team partner, taking the count out loss.
Drew McIntyre cut a decent promo recalling Robert the Bruce, before MVP and Bobby Lashley insisted the former champion can’t challenge the All Mighty for the WWE Title if he loses this clash.
He agreed, and we’re all set for a Hell In A Cell bout later this month – while the Scotsman ended the segment by cutting the table in half with his sword.
Elsewhere, Ricochet and Humberto Carrillo met in a number one contenders match while United States Champion Sheamus – with a mask over his broken nose – watched on from ringside.
The two stars went all-out with the time they had and delivered in a big way, even if the double count out was a disappointing ending.
Jeff Hardy beat Cedric Alexander – who branded the Charismatic Enigma a thing of the past before the bell – in a cracking bout, even although the result was a strange choice.
Over in the women’s division, Nikki Cross chose Asuka as her partner against Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair, with the ‘can they coexist’ storyline at the forefront.
They couldn’t, and the ending came when the Queen hit her rival with the Natural Selection, leaving Cross to score the win.
Mansoor built some momentum this week too, pinning Drew Gulak in a brief but fun match.
And Kofi Kingston defeated Riddle in a fantastic match with Randy Orton and Xavier Woods providing added drama on the outside.
