4-Time NASCAR Champion Jeff Gordon Explains Why Lewis Hamilton Would Have Succeeded in NASCAR

In a recent podcast, 4-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon spoke on a number of subjects. Among them, he opened up on defending champion Lewis Hamilton.

The former Hendrick Motorsports driver admitted that the British superstar could have performed well in the NASCAR arena.

He said, “Had I taken that path, I would have been successful, same for Lewis Hamilton. When you have that ability and that talent, to find the limit of the car and have the confidence and drive and desire to push yourself in every aspect. Be completely dedicated to it to be successful.”

Of course, this is all speculation and nobody knows how F1 drivers would perform in a different environment. There have been a few NASCAR-F1 crossovers in the past like Jimmie Johnson and Fernando Alonso.

Hamilton also took part in an earlier car swap, this time with Tony Stewart at Watkins Glen.

Lewis Hamilton is caught up in a fierce championship battle

The Mercedes superstar and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen are locked in a tight championship battle. At the recently concluded Azerbaijan Grand Prix, both drivers suffered horrible races.

To be precise, Hamilton ended up outside the points. This was after he locked up at the first corner during a restart. Meanwhile, Verstappen crashed out in spectacular fashion after his tire exploded.

As a result, the Drivers’ Championship is still maintaining a status quo. Now, the F1 community heads to the Circuit Paul Ricard in 2 weeks’ time to compete in the French Grand Prix.

Without a doubt, Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton will be eager for redemption after a race of lost opportunities. Meanwhile, Gordon is happily retired from the racing scene. He now works with Fox NASCAR as a commentator.

The former Hendrick Motorsports driver is enjoying an exciting NASCAR season that started off as unpredictable. However, the Hendrick Motorsports team has recently been on a roll, winning the last 4 races.
