With Louise Minchin turning off her 3.40am alarm clock for good as she quits BBC Breakfast, her co-host Dan Walker put the most important question to her during today’s programme: is she joining the class of Strictly Come Dancing 2021?

Louise announced she was leaving BBC Breakfast after 20 years yesterday, with her colleagues all passing on their congrats.

Even her former Good Morning Britain rival Piers Morgan joined in to call her a ‘class act’ and pitched to take her job.

So, naturally, talk has turned to what Louise will do next?

‘You’re all over the papers today,’ Dan told Louise, referring to the Strictly rumours as bookies slashed their odds she’ll be part of this year’s line-up.

‘I want to hear straight from the horse’s mouth.’

‘You know the answer to that,’ Louise laughed as she squirmed in her seat. ‘I’m on a lifetime ban.’

Louise previously revealed her husband of 23 years wouldn’t allow her to take part in the BBC series, despite BBC Breakfast stars Naga Munchetty, Mike Bushell, Carol Kirkwood and, former BBC presenter Susanna Reid.

Dan has also ruled himself out of Strictly, despite being ‘asked a few times’.

‘I see Strictly as a spectator sport,’ he said. ‘Also, I’m 6ft 6in and I’ve got an incredibly huge wingspan. They’d have to get a much bigger studio in there. But I do enjoy it and we like watching it as a family.”

‘My wife loves it. I’ve taken her to the Strictly shows a few times.

‘I feel like I’m quite a confident person but confident in the things I know I’m half-decent at.

‘There’s a part of me that wishes I had dance floor confidence.’

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One. Strictly returns later this year.
