Dana White Warns Nick Diaz Against Fighting at 185-Pounds on His Return

It seems as though 2021 will be the first time in a very long time that we see both Diaz brothers compete in the same calendar year. After years of speculating about a possible return, Dana White confirmed that Nick Diaz is most likely set for a return to the octagon later this year.

The Stockton native has been inactive for over six years. The last time he competed was at 185-pounds when he faced Anderson Silva. Diaz lost the fight, however, the result was later overturned as Silva tested positive for banned substances.

In a recent interview, Kevin Iole of Yahoo sports asked Dana White for updates on Nick Diaz’s potential return and which weight class he would be competing at.

White said, “It’s looking like he might fight this year. You know me, every time you ask me I say no, no, no. He actually might fight this year we’ll see how this thing plays out.”

The UFC supremo continued, “I’m assuming he will fight at 170. I don’t think you want to fight at 185 here. I get it he wanted to do the Anderson Silva thing, but you don’t want to fight at 185 here, no way. Especially after not fighting for six years. 170 is bad enough.”

Nick Diaz set for a spectacular return later this year

The elder Diaz brother has been a fan favorite ever since he joined the UFC. Diaz was a champion in other organizations but was never able to capture UFC gold despite fighting for it multiple times. During his time with the promotion, Diaz fought the very best the UFC had to offer including the likes of Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre who are considered among the greatest to ever compete in the promotion.

We have often seen fighters return to the sport after a few years away from it. However, there have seldom been instances where a fighter has returned after six years of inactivity. Therefore, it is only natural to wonder how much it will affect Diaz’s performance.

There have been several names thrown around to face Diaz given he is a big name in the sport. However, the common consensus is that the UFC will give him a warmup fight of sorts against someone who is not ranked and then offer him more fights based on his performance, should he wish to continue fighting.
