Former WWE Superstar Retires from Pro Wrestling After an Injury at AEW Double or Nothing

Many people around the world consider pro wrestling as fake. However, it’s not. Wrestlers put their body on the line to give fans a memorable time. Injuries are a part and parcel of the sport. But some can be career-threatening. One such wrestler who’s suffered a career-altering injury is Lio Rush.

Lio Rush forced to retire from pro wrestling at just 26 years old

The ‘Man of the Hour’ took to Instagram earlier today to announce his announcement from professional wrestling. The news came as a huge shock for the entire pro wrestling world as Rush had recently made his AEW debut at Double or Nothing. And was even scheduled to appear for NJPW, and several independent promotions soon.

Lio Rush revealed he separated his AC Joint during the Casino Battle Royal at AEW Double or Nothing. Initially, he thought the injury would keep him away from the ring for sometime. However, he later realized the injury has hindered his ability to do basic everyday things, such as  putting on T-Shirt or holding his newborn son.

The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion also shared AEW expressed interest to sign him to a contract despite of him getting injured during the Casino Battle Royal. Sadly, the unexpected circumstances forced the ‘Man of the Hour’ to call it a career.

Lio Rush further added he’s looking at the situation as a blessing in disguise. He will take the opportunity to think what’s next in store for him and what he can do to make his and his family’s life happy. Although Lio said he is retiring from pro wrestling, he has promised to step in the ring again for NJPW.

The ‘Man of the Hour’ is contracted to New Japan Pro Wrestling and will complete his contractual obligations once he recovers from his injury. This clearly means we haven’t seen the last of Lio Rush inside the squared circle. At least the man will go out on a high note.

What will the ‘Man of the Hour’ do post-retirement?

Lio Rush is only 26 years old and has a long road ahead of him. Aside from wrestling, Rush is also a rapper and even launched two albums last year. If he’s going away from the sport, he could definitely put his heart completely into making music. Who knows? We might see him create a few wrestling theme songs in the future.

Apart from continuing his career in music, Lio Rush could be a handy signing even in a non-wrestling capacity. We all know Rush is one of the confident talkers on the microphone and could easily elevate any performer that aligns with him. And this wouldn’t be new considering he’s managed Bobby Lashley before.

Either way, we wish Lio Rush all the best in whatever path he chooses following his wrestling retirement. It’s sad to see such a promising talent call it a career so early. But sometimes life gets hard only to prepare us for the best. We strongly believe the best is yet to come for the ‘Man of the Hour.’
