Ray Allen Snubs LeBron James and Dwyane Wade From His Former Teammates Starting Five

Before the shooting exploits of Stephen Curry, Ray Allen was in a league of his own. The Milwaukee Bucks drafted him in 1996 as he took the Bucks to the NBA Eastern Conference finals while also winning his first NBA title with Boston Celtics in 2008. After spending five seasons with the Celtics he later moved onto the Miami Heat where he won his second NBA title along with LeBron James and Dwyane Wade. However, in a recent podcast, Ray Allen left out James and Wade as he picked his top 4 players to team up with.

So who made the cut?

Arguably the greatest shooter in the league before a certain Steph Curry came into existence, Allen has played with a lot of talented players. Ray also holds the record for the most three-pointers made in NBA history. For now, let’s look at the players who got selected.

“I am taking Glenn Robinson, Terrell Brandon, I have played with Shaq, and it is easy to put Shaq, and I’m gonna say KG,” said Allen.

Even though he won the NBA title with James and Wade, neither of these two players got selected. Glenn Robinson and Terrell Brandon were underrated names in the league’s history for their commitment on the court. Likewise, Shaquille O’Neal was a dominant player, and his inclusion is understandable. Similarly, Kevin Garnett’s selection will have no doubts because of the influence he had on Allen and the Celtics. But why was LeBron not selected?

Ray Allen drains the Spurs

With his consistent shooting beyond the arc, Allen was one of the best shooters in the league. Notably, his second title came with the Miami Heat. James was terrific in the playoffs that season as the Miami Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs.

However, there can be a cause for his omission of these two players. When game six was played in Miami, the Heat were trailing 3-2 to the Spurs during the 2013 NBA finals. With Spurs looking to close out the series in Miami, Ray Allen stepped up, and produced a miraculous shot.

James and Wade were at the risk of losing the NBA title, but Allen stepped up to the occasion. He single-handedly gave James a second chance to win his second consecutive NBA title. Even though James was at his usual self, the contributions of Allen can’t be forgotten.

Allen had an illustrious career. Despite winning an NBA championship with LeBron he does not select him in his top five. However, the aforementioned players have had a greater influence on his career, and that might be the reason for choosing those players. But did James deserve a place in his starting line-up?
