“We’re Far From Done”- Aleister Black Recalls a Conversation With Paul Heyman After His Release

Lately, Aleister Black has been the talk of the town but for all the wrong reasons. His untimely and abrupt release from WWE shocked the pro wrestling world. But this all happened at the front end of the scene. What about behind the scenes?

In a recent episode of ‘Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette‘, Aleister Black was invited over as a guest. During the interview, Black openly lauded Paul Heyman for backing him in WWE. He recalled,

“He [Paul Heyman] reached out to me on the day that it happened. It was very sad. Paul has always said to me, ‘Tom, I think you’re five years ahead of the business.’

“He’s like, ‘As brilliant as I think you are, I think that’s also sometimes your biggest issue is that you’re so far ahead mentally that people have to catch up to it’ and he still now, he still believes.

“He’s like, ‘I still believe you’re gonna do great things’ and you know, we’re far from done. I am absolutely far from done.” (H/t Post Wrestling for transcriptions)

It must have been comforting for Black to know that at least someone in WWE management was still rooting for him. Maybe those words of encouragement from Paul Heyman were exactly what Black needed at that moment.

Aleister Black could have been on the main roster sooner

During the interview, Aleister also revealed that Vince McMahon wanted him to be on the main roster for ages. He took a stroll down memory lane to the start of his NXT career.

Black remembers the match that he had with Velveteen Dream and that was a match that put him on the map. Black stated that every time he saw the fans get behind him or the ratings were positive, no one pulled the trigger on it.

According to him, Triple H told him that even back then, Vince McMahon was like, “I want that guy.” A similar incident occurred after the match with Johnny Gargano when he came back from the ring.
