Deiveson Figueiredo: Ethnicity, Origins, and Nationality

Deiveson Figueiredo is the current UFC Flyweight champion. He was born on December 18, 1987 at Soure, Paras, which is a small city in Marajo, Brazil. The Surname Figueiredo is one of the most common surnames used in Brazil, Angola and Portugal. Its meaning in old Portuguese is the son of a Figueira, where Figueira refers to a fig tree. The surname came from the family of a knight of Goda origin called Guesto Ansur.

As of now, Deiveson Figueiredo is called by the nickname of ‘Deus da Guerra’ which translates to ‘the God who gives war’ or ‘God of War’. His father was a buffalo herder and made his living out of it. Figueiredo worked with his father till the age of thirteen until he discovered the art of Brazilian martial arts.

He started his training alongside with the UFC fighter Iuri Alcantara and Michel Prazeres, and since then, had an obvious goal of becoming a mixed martial artist. During this phase he also worked a sushi chef, a bricklayer, a hairdresser and a motorcycle taxi driver.

Figueiredo tied the knot with his long time dating partner, Bruna Moraes. Moraes works as a homemaker and also organizes theme based parties in Brazil. Deiveson Figueiredo has had the pleasure of becoming a father as the couple was blessed with a baby boy born in January 2019.

The Flyweight king has two younger siblings, one sister and a brother with the name of Francisco Figueiredo. His bother also shares the same passion of mixed martial arts and currently competes in the same Flyweight division as his elder brother. Francisco Figueiredo has a record of 12 wins 1 draw 1 no contest and 3 defeats to his MMA resume.

The Mixed martial arts career of Deiveson Figueiredo

‘God of War’ began his professional MMA career back in 2012 when fought Aluisio Ferreira in KOCI 3. He piled up seven straight wins before he got signed by Jungle Fight which is a popular Brazilian MMA promotion. UFC signed him in 2017 after his impressive submission win at SMF.

Since then, Deiveson Figueiredo climbed up the Flyweight ranking with only suffering a single defeat in his career. He became the Flyweight champion when he successfully demolished his opponent Joseph Benavidez at UFC Fight Night in July 2020.

Now he is set to defend his Flyweight title for the third time in a rematch with Brandon Moreno at UFC 263.
