French Grand Prix 2021: Who Owns the Paul Ricard F1 Circuit?

In a little more than a week’s time, the Formula One paddock heads to the Paul Ricard Circuit for the French Grand Prix. The GP made a return to the F1 calendar in 2018 and in 2019. Lewis Hamilton won on both occasions, but not many were fans of the racing quality.

Coming to the track itself, it is interesting to note that Slavica Ecclestone, Bernie’s ex-wife, is the proud owner. Apparently, she inherited the Circuit Paul Ricard after her divorce from the former F1 supremo. Back in 2018, she and former F1 driver Jean Alesi visited Le Castellet for a general inspection.

“I am very impressed with everything that has been done,” she said. “It’s completely different and I’m very happy. It’s unique and more impressive than other circuits.

“I was very happy when I learned that they had decided to have a Grand Prix here. I’ve heard a lot about it from the news and from my advisors and friends in a very positive way.”

However, 2 years later, things took a turn for the worse. As it turns out, General Manager Stephane Clair confirmed that there were plans for a change of ownership.

However, it appeared that though there were several offers, none of them were particularly lucrative. So for now, Ecclestone remains as the Paul Ricard Circuit owner for the time being.

Admittedly, the last two editions of the French Grand Prix have left a lot to be desired in the excitement department. Hopefully, lightning does not strike a third time, especially considering that the field has been a lot more competitive.

Next weekend, the Red Bull team will be keen to continue their good form. However, the Mercedes team is seeking redemption after two poor races in succession.
