Eddie Hearn Reveals Timeline For Dillian Whyte’s Return

Dillian Whyte rocked the entire boxing world with his terrific performance against Alexander Povetkin in March. ‘The Body Snatcher’ was able to avenge his second career loss by finishing the Russian in the fifth round. Whyte won the WBC interim championship via the fight. In an already chaotic heavyweight division, with multiple champions and former champions active at the top, all eyes are on his next move.

Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearn has indicated that the 33-year-old would have a fight on his hands really soon. In a recent interview with iFL TV, Hearn said he is currently engaged in discussions with Whyte’s management.

 

“I had a meeting with his team on Monday. Looking at options really. I’d like a fight for him in the US. There are another couple of fights we are looking at as well. I think you’ll see him back in September,” Hearn confirmed.

Who’s next for Whyte?

Hearn’s plans with Whyte are clear: a second fight this year with another top heavyweight. However, many of the biggest names in the division are unlikely to share the squared circle with him in the near future. Tyson Fury would take on Deontay Wilder for the third time in July. Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk are also expected to face each other on September 25.

Hearn also said that the rivalry between Joshua and Whyte is not likely going to settle soon. “For AJ, that kinda makes it a little bit difficult. Because, obviously, if he is September 25th or 18th, you gotta have a quick win with no hiccups to get out and get in by December. For Dillian, he definitely wants to have two fights this year. So, the first of those would look to be early September to give you the opportunity to fight in December as well,” Hearn explained.

One former heavyweight champion still actively competing could be available around the said time period. Andy Ruiz Jr just scored a spectacular win over Chris Arreola on May 1 and is looking for a quick turnaround.

 

Incidentally, Whyte has also been calling him out on Twitter recently.

A fight between the two champion heavyweights could be interesting. ‘The Body Snatcher’ has an interesting style. Although he possesses incredible, he depends more on his excellent counter-punching ability. Ruiz, however, has an aggressive marauding style.
