Tony Khan Fires Back at Triple H, Says Plenty of AEW Superstars Have No Interest in Working With WWE

A few days ago, WWE Legend and top executive Triple H caused some headlines when he claimed the best female superstars in the world reside in WWE now. Now, WWE’s closest rival AEW’s President and CEO Tony Khan has responded to the comments.

While speaking to a media call ahead of NXT TakeOver: In Your House, Triple H spoke about the possibilities of another all-women PPV. In the end, he stated, “I think we do a pretty good job. And my opinion–again, my opinion–the best female performers in the world are in WWE. And then if they’re not, they want to be.”

AEW Women’s Champion Britt Baker, IMPACT Knockouts Champion Deonna Purrazzo, and former NWA Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa did not take the last comment too kindly.

AEW CEO Tony Khan appeared on Busted Open Radio and gave his opinion. Here, we must note AEW, IMPACT, and NWA have a deal amongst themselves that allows performers to appear on the three brands.

“I think we already had, in my opinion, the best roster in wrestling,” Tony said. “I don’t think there is anything wrong with… everyone is building their own roster and are going to have good feelings about the people they work with.”

While Tony accepted that there was nothing wrong with putting one’s brand over, he believed that the presumption of people wanting to work only for WWE annoyed people off.

“When you say ‘anyone of any value wants to work here,’ that’s just not true. It’s crazy. There are plenty of people who work for AEW that have no interest in working there. [Britt Baker] made it pretty clear yesterday with what she tweeted,” he said (H/T Fightful).

As Tony Khan mentions, how did Britt Baker respond to Triple H’s comments?

Among the rest of the champions, Britt posted the least blunt response. She posted a picture of her and Rosa during their bout at AEW St. Patrick Day Slam. During this match, they became the first women to main event AEW Dynamite within two years of its conception.

Rosa, who also runs the all-female promotion Mission Pro Wrestling, wrote, “The Best Female Wrestlers are not located in one company not even in one country. They are spread over many companies and many countries! Talented women across the Globe!”

Impact Knockout Champion Deonna Purrazzo supported Rosa with a retweet. Rosa, Baker, and Purrazzo were all associated with WWE at one point.

Thunder Rosa passed on a tryout to be a WWE referee. WWE did not sign Baker after her tryout with WWE and they released Purrazzo in 2020. These women are living proof that one can be the best despite not being in WWE.
