Euro 2020 fans blame BBC for shadow covering third of Wembley pitch for England vs Croatia game
UEFA Euro 2020 fans blamed the BBC for the shadow covering a third of the Wembley pitch during the England and Croatia match.
The tournament, taking place from June 11 – July 11, was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Every team is raring to go, with Portugal keen to defend their title, while Gareth Southgate’s England squad will be eager to make history by making it all the way to the Euro final for the first time.
Against 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia, the Three Lions had home advantage under the London sun.
However, people were enraged when England’s left side and Croatia’s box were both covered in shade.
Some viewers blamed the BBC for the shadow and took to Twitter, demanding that they correct it.
‘Nice shadow on the pitch another blinding performance from the bbc,’ one viewer said.
Another tweeted: ‘Feels like Croatia are hiding in the shadows BBC need to sort out their technology.’
But others made fun of those accusing the BBC of being to blame for the shaded pitch.
‘Seeing England supporters tweet complaints at the BBC because there’s a shadow on the pitch reminds me we deserve no good things as a nation,’ one person joked.
‘My favourite thing is people blaming the BBC for the shadow on the pitch,’ someone else tweeted.
Another said: ‘The BBC is being blamed for the shadows in Wembley….and on a completely unrelated note, twitter is very normal!’
England got off to the perfect start at Euro 2020 as Raheem Sterling’s goal sealed a 1-0 win against Croatia.
Gareth Southgate’s side began brightly in their first Group D match as Phil Foden hit the post in the opening six minutes, but despite their dominance the Three Lions were unable to make a breakthrough before half time.
The hot weather at Wembley will undoubtedly have played a huge factor as both sides struggled to play at a high tempo at the start of the second half.
But England finally found a way past an organised Croatian defence as Kalvin Philipps’ driving run and neat pass found Sterling who smashed his effort past Dominik Livakovic.
