Gervonta Davis Sends a Stern Message to His ‘Haters’: “It’s Going to Be a Time When They Wake Up”

Two-weight world champion Gervonta Davis might make it three on the night of his clash against Mario Barrios for the WBA 140 lbs title on June 26. Hence, the 26-year-old appears ready to silence his critics. Boasting of an undefeated record, ‘Tank’ believes he is underrated.

Although he is already a boxing superstar, Davis doesn’t appear pleased with the criticism he has received throughout the years. In an interaction with Brian Custer, he addressed the issue and sent a message to the haters. While Davis didn’t bother to consider the ‘P4P best’ tag to be important at this stage, it is still one of his future targets.

Gervonta Davis said, “I mean for me, I don’t really focus on that (The best P4P tag) you know. But it’s going to be certain. It’s definitely going to be certain. I am working each and every day, you know, just to continue to beat whatever they put in front of me. It’s going to be a time when they wake up for sure.”

Following a dominant win over Leo Santa Cruz last year, Davis will have a tough test against Barrios this month. ‘El-Azteca’ Barrios has all the tools to dismantle Davis and a move to 140 lbs can be costly for ‘Tank’. Nevertheless, Gervonta Davis has seemed confident about retaining his undefeated record, for which he will have to snatch Barrios’ ‘0’.

Can Gervonta Davis be the next big thing?

Hailing from the Mayweather Promotions, ‘Tank’ is already a big name in the lightweight division. The Baltimore native’s professional career has seen him reach sheer heights of success. Besides, Gervonta Davis is already a PPV fighter. Hence, he appears to be walking the right path in his career to become the next big thing.

Meanwhile, the 135 lbs and the 140 lbs divisions have several unbeaten champions and ‘Tank’ hasn’t fought all of them. So, there’s still some work left to do. The primary job would start with Mario Barrios (26-0).

Unless Gervonta Davis gets his hands raised against Barrios, he would still have some haters on board. However, a win can help them all “wake up.”
