“I’m Getting Paid to be Mark Henry”- WWE Hall of Famer Details How He Will Contribute to the AEW Roster

We’ve seen a trend of ex-WWE superstars making a career in rival promotions. AEW has absorbed a large portion of WWE’s former talent, the latest being Mark Henry. The World’s Strongest Man jumped ship to join his former rival Paul Wight in a senior advisor role.

Why is Mark Henry in AEW?

At Double or Nothing, Tony Schiavone brought out Mark Henry, who walked out a gigantic ovation. Fans went nuts inside Daly’s Place and from their homes, celebrating Henry getting a career revival. Henry talked to the AEW crowd the next night, but Andrade El Idolo interrupted him.

On Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette, Mark Henry explained his new role in AEW. He also praised AEW and showed his excitement for his new workplace, and how he’s there to fix problems.

I’m a Swiss Army Knife. I’m getting paid to be Mark Henry. Like everything that comes with it, I’m going to be doing educational programmes. I’m going to be doing community involvement. I want the city of Jacksonville to love this company like they love the football team. That don’t exist here.

I guess coaching is explaining psychology, and you know, we use a term on Busted Open called tightening the screws. AEW is not broken. Like they’re good, they got people already that live and die for them. But there are little problems that come up with fine tuning, and even master guitarists and master pianists. They have to tune their equipment even then, and that’s a job I have here. I want to be a mentor and lead by example.

What’s next for AEW?

With Double or Nothing in the past, AEW has to forge some new angle and storylines to enter the summer of 2021. With WWE planning banger PPVs with SummerSlam and Money in the Bank, AEW needs to step up their game.

Kenny Omega will take on Jungle Boy with the AEW World Championship on the line, and the Young Bucks renewed hostilities with Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr. The AEW Women’s Championship scene is at an all-time high, with Britt Baker becoming the hottest property in wrestling.

As for Christian Cage, he has Matt Hardy in his sights, and will look to put him in his rear-view mirror on his path to becoming a champion. The rest of the roster needs to enter new feuds in order to boost their profile and rise higher up the ranks.
