Israel Adesanya Moves Closer to Breaking Anderson Silva’s Record

UFC middleweight superstar Israel Adesanya beat Marvin Vettori in the main event of UFC 263 after a dominant performance. The Nigerian fighter ended all doubts over who the best middleweight in the world was and came back strongly after losing against Jan Blachowicz.

With this win, Adesanya improved his record to 21-1. He is undefeated at middleweight and has won all of his 10 fights in the UFC. Interestingly, he is starting to get closer to the records of a man that is widely considered the greatest ever to do it in MMA.

Anderson Silva was one of the best fighters in the world alongside Georges St-Pierre when he competed in the UFC. The Brazilian martial artist dominated all of his fights and beat everyone who was thrown at him in the prime of his life. He has victories over Chael Sonnen, Demian Maia, Forrest Griffin, and Vitor Belfort among other legends.

However, once he got knocked out by Chris Weidman after showboating in their fight, it all went downhill from there. Silva would break his leg in their rematch and will only win one more fight in the UFC against Derek Brunson. He won one fight out of his last nine in the UFC and has since left the organization after recently losing against Uriah Hall in 2020.

However, one of his nine losses was against the man who is destined to break his middleweight record, Israel Adesanya.

Israel Adesanya vs. Anderson Silva: A battle between past and the future

Silva and Adesanya fought at UFC 234 in one of the best matches of the event. The fight was awarded fight of the night honors as Anderson Silva brought out some of his vintage moves to keep the fight close. Even though Adesanya did land more strikes in the three-round fight, but Silva showed everyone what he had left in the tank by winning the second round.

However, the other two rounds were disappointing for the Brazilian as ‘The Last Stylebender pulled away from him in the final round of the fight. Nevertheless, it was a moment that signified the shift from the past to the future, and Adesanya did deliver upon his calling of winning the middleweight title.
