Novak Djokovic vs Stefanos Tsitsipas: Why Bjorn Borg Will Present the Trophy to the French Open 2021 Champion

It’s the second Sunday of the French Open 2021 and fans are eagerly waiting for World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and rising star Stefanos Tsitsipas to take to the courts for the title. It’s a match no fan would want to miss as an 18-time Grand Slam champion will take on a first-time finalist. Any way the match goes, history shall be created today.

Another interesting aspect today will be the fact that six-time French Open champion Bjorn Borg will be presenting the trophy to the winner of today’s match. The Swede is not new to this role and has done it twice in the past, in 2008 and 2014. Interestingly, it will be the 40th anniversary since he won his last title in Paris.

Bjorn Borg has been a presenter of the French Open trophy twice

Unsurprisingly, on both those occasions, Spanish star Rafael Nadal was the winner. To receive an award from such a legendary figure who has been part of the history of such a great tournament is a matter of great pride. It will be an honor to receive this accolade from the great Swede and the words exchanged during the presentation will be remembered for a lifetime.

Speaking about Borg’s association with Roland Garros, he has been the second most successful player at this event after the Spaniard. Besides winning six titles in Paris, he was a five-time champion at Wimbledon. His ability to conquer and dominate the courts of clay and grass indicates the versatility of his style of play.

All eyes on the two gladiators

Focusing on today’s match, both players have played a high level of tennis to reach this stage. Stefanos Tsitsipas was locked in a fierce battle against German Alexander Zverev in the semifinal. He was two sets up but lost the next two sets only to bounce back and claim the fifth.

On the other hand, Novak Djokovic did the impossible for the second time in his career, knocking 13-time champion Rafael Nadal out, in four sets. Their match itself felt like a final and whenever these two athletes step on the court, they never fail to disappoint.

It will be interesting to see who emerges on top in this fierce contest between the Serb and the Greek player. Nonetheless, it will be a match not worth missing as there will be history created today.
