Shakur Stevenson Defeats Jeremiah Nakathila but Disappoints with His Performance

‘Fearless’ Shakur Stevenson successfully grabbed the WBO (Interim) 125 lbs belt by outworking Jeremiah Nakathila throughout the 12-rounds of their headlining collision. While many had predicted to see a stoppage victory from Stevenson, the 23-year-old pulled off a tactical display and went to the distance with his opposition.

That said, Shakur Stevenson appeared flawless tonight. Despite competing for over 30 minutes against Nakathila, he didn’t let his African rival plant a power shot. Starting from range, pace to distance, Stevenson could dictate all of it, as he turned 16-0 in his professional career. However, Jeremiah Nakathila also deserves some credit for dancing around with one of the best young prospects in the sport.

As both men appeared to had prioritized a safe game plan rather than throwing haymakers, Stevenson could plant a few power shots. In rounds three, four, and five, he cracked up Jeremiah Nakathila and also put him down. However, that wasn’t enough to secure a stoppage win, and ‘Low Key’ kept coming back to the mix.

Shakur Stevenson vs Jeremiah Nakathila;- Was it a worthy battle?

On a PPV level, Stevenson vs Nakathila was competing against the UFC 263. Hence, the viewership was harshly split between the two sports. Although traditional boxing fans chose to watch Stevenson’s fight, the boxer could have delivered more to the display.

While ‘Fearless’ attained a rightful win under his name, it didn’t rake him to the new heights of stardom. Furthermore, it can garner criticism from fellow boxers at the 130 lbs roster. So, a KO win could have been favorable to Shakur Stevenson at this point.
