Sunday Brunch was hit with a rather NSFW caption blunder as the show’s theme song got a make-over this week no one was expecting.
This is either the technical issue of nightmares, or a scorned captions operator now looking for a new job.
Viewers were left in hysterics as the opening tune, which usually, innocently, sports the line ‘The sun comes up. I fill my cup. I’m waking up to Sunday Brunch,’ but was instead transformed by a closed-caption that didn’t quite translate correctly.
On yesterday’s episode, the offending line instead stated: ‘The sun comes up. I feel my c**k. I’m waking up to Sunday Brunch.’
Yep, that’s going to enrage the censors of Channel 4 who probably aren’t too keen with their sunny morning jingle hit with a side of spontaneous penis at 9.30am.
The quick moment, which flashed on the screen for a mere moment, was caught by viewers settling in to the lifestyle programme, as one noted: ‘When teletext goes wrong in an amusing way,’ as they shared a screen grab of the moment, which occured over an image of guest Scott Mills.
‘This morning Sunday Brunch fell victim!’
Another felt it was a little hilarious BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott was roped into the mishap, as they wrote: ‘Subtitles seem to suggest @scott_mills is a big fan of @SundayBrunchC4 opening titles. Taking ‘Lovejoy’ literally.’
Scott himself chimed in, adding on Twitter alongside a crying laughing emoji: ‘Well this is unfortunate!’
Host Simon Rimmer noted on Scott’s tweet: ‘Even subtitles could be on innuendo bingo.’
Another had a sense of humour about the blunder, as well as a few questions, as they mused: ‘@SundayBrunchC4 The subtitles to the theme tune mix first thing! On a Sunday morning! Even I was shocked! Someone havin a laugh?’
Side note – another round of the chorus wasn’t so erotic, but did still sport the incorrect line: ‘Feel my cup.’
It’s the latest mishap to occur on the sometimes-chaotic morning programme, which has seen host Tim Lovejoy take a mighty tumble live on air, Fleabag star Sian Clifford say ‘f**k’ (with Emily Atack nearly swearing) and comedian Jon Richardson, who is vegan, fed the very non-vegan ghee during a cooking segment.
Even last month co-host Simon Rimmer fell into trouble after accidentally cutting his thumb open on a grater after poking fun at Joe Sugg for ‘fainting’ on Celebrity Bake Off for a similar mishap.
Ah Sunday Brunch – it never fails to ‘fill our cup’.
