UFC 263 Goes Down as a Milestone Event- Here’s Why

UFC 263 was a milestone event for the organization in more ways than one. The UFC came back down to the Gila River Arena in Glendale Arizona with two marquee title fights that delivered. Additionally, both the title features had the potential to be historic as Marvin Vettori and Brandon Moreno both stood a chance to become first-time champions of their respective countries.

When it was all said and done, Brandon Moreno did indeed go down as the first-ever Mexican-born UFC champion after UFC 263. Unfortunately for Marvin Vettori, he came up short in his bid to become the first Italian-born UFC champion.

Another highlight from UFC 263 was that it set the single-event record for the most cage time at 3 hours, 19 minutes and 32 seconds. The fight card bolstered 14 fights with 11 of those contests going the distance. In the eyes of some fans who crave high octane action, this could very well be looked at as a record not worth having.

Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards delivers in spades

The records continued to flow at UFC 263 as the lights shone brightly on the Leon Edwards vs Nate Diaz fight. The aforementioned scrap was the first-ever five-round fight that wasn’t a title fight or a main event. Both men gave everything they had across five rounds and delivered in a massive way.

Additionally, the fact that there were five-round ended up serving the fans well as the fifth round saw electric action. After being beaten for nearly 24 minutes, Nate Diaz almost did the impossible and stopped Leon Edwards. Stockton’s second son stunned Edwards with a Stockton slap followed by a left hook that rocked Edwards.

Nate Diaz turned on the pace and tried to get Leon Edwards out of the octagon, however, the clock ran out. Despite that, fans were thoroughly entertained and Diaz’s deliverance in the final moments made everything worthwhile.

Fans would never have gotten to witness such electrifying energy if the fight was three-round instead of five. UFC 263 will undoubtedly go down as one of the most memorable events of the year.
