WWE veteran Todd Pettengill would ‘love’ full time return after NXT TakeOver: In Your House

Todd Pettengill delighted fans at NXT TakeOver: In Your House – and he’d love to make more regular appearances.

The former WWE broadcaster made his comeback as the host Sunday night’s show after returning at last year’s IYH ever, and he’s revealed his desire to fit in wherever possible.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I’d love to – I’m available for whatever these guys need. We’ve had such a good relationship over the years, and really it’s a long time!

‘Now that I’m done with the radio and my schedule’s a little freer it would be fun to help any way that I can. If it’s just the occasional pop-in that’s fine, if it’s something more regularly that’s great too!’

When Pettengill joined in the 1990s, he was approached by Vince and Linda McMahon, who signed him despite him not being a fan of WWE or pro wrestling – unlike his friend Michael Cole.

However, he picked up the business and ‘very quickly’ fell in love with the world he was now a part of.

‘Oh, it happened very quickly. That’s, number one, because of the atmosphere of all the people who worked behind the scenes, because they’re also superstars. You’re talking about generating content for 130 countries – or whatever it is – every single week,’ he said.

‘Those are the people that I spent most of my time with. Clearly when we did events or I was in the studio with Randy [Savage], Ted DiBiase or Sunny, then you have those one-on-one relationships but the majority of my time is the people who were charged with creating that content.

‘They become family, and then you become a fan of what you’re talking about and it happens really quickly. If you’re not, it’ll show! People can smell insincerity a mile away so if you’re not buying in, then you shouldn’t be there.’

Despite his ‘great relationship’ with Vince during his original run with the company, they haven’t found time for a catch-up this time – but maybe that could change if WWE or NXT decide to bring him in more regularly.

‘Vince is running a multi-billion dollar company so I don’t think I’m high on the list of chit-chat buddies,’ he laughed.

‘We had a great relationship when I was there and whenever anyone asks me about Vince, I have nothing but the highest praise. He was a rock-solid leader. As evidence, look at what he’s done with this company and the heights to which he’s taken it.

‘It’s really mind-blowing what he’s been able to accomplish. Bumps in the road along the way, but guess what? You go over the jump and keep going. That’s what he’s done, so really hats off to him!’

And despite being out of wrestling world for a long time before last year’s In Your House, Todd has loved being back and easily slipped into his former role to perfection.

‘You always miss it. It’s nice to do the content again. I feel like it’s sorta like riding a bike,’ he said.

‘You do it, you haven’t done it for a while but you still obviously remember. And once you start again you’re like, ah yeah, I remember this, this feels good!’
