Brian Blessed keeps mouth shut for 24 hours to raise money for charity in Nepal

MEGAPHONE-voice actor Brian Blessed has left the nation open-mouthed — by keeping his shut for 24 hours.

The booming performer, 84, whose roar was measured to be louder than a Boeing 747, enjoyed a “nice quiet day” at home to raise money for a charity in Nepal.

Blessed, famed for screaming the catchphrase “Gordon’s Alive”, managed the sponsored silence after being taught to chill by Tibetan monks.

Despite his noisy reputation, he said he actually “loves to be silent” and meditates twice a day.

And on Sunday he had a “whole day of staying quiet” with wife Hildegard Neil, 81, at their Surrey home.

He kept busy by tending to his hens, writing, sitting in the garden with their two dogs and eating sandwiches.

The Flash Gordon, Blackadder and Peppa Pig star fell in love with Nepal during three attempts to conquer Mount Everest and even met the Dalai Lama in the 1990s.

It was there that monks taught him how to achieve inner peace.

And his fund-raising efforts struck a chord with his fans — as he hit his £5,000 target.
