Deiveson Figueiredo Blames Bad Weight Cut for His Loss at UFC 263- Wants an Immediate Rematch Against Brandon Moreno

Deiveson Figueiredo came up short in his second title defense when he faced Brandon Moreno for the second time. ‘The Assassin Baby’ choked out ‘Daico’ in round three to become the first Mexican-born champion in the UFC. The fight started out well for Figueiredo, who established the pace early on. However, Moreno was able to secure his back in a scramble and that was the end of the fight for Figueiredo.

‘The God of War’ shared his thoughts on the fight with Evy Rodrigues of Combate. He said, “It really was the weight cut. I didn’t have a healthy weight cut, it was really hard to beat the weight. Left the hotel (for the arena) feeling very bad. I knew it wasn’t my day, but I gave it into God’s hands, and going to the Octagon I said, ‘Lord, your will be done.”

‘Daico’ continued, “I got in there, I didn’t really fight like I am and I really want to immediately ask for a rematch with Dana (White), and I hope to get it because I won the first fight and even so they took a point from me and they decided to tie for the second fight. And now I want the trilogy. He got my belt, the first one I won and we’re going to fight this third fight now to take the fight off”

Does Deiveson Figueiredo deserve to run it back against Brandon Moreno?

The first encounter between the two men was on three weeks’ notice. Both men put on a stellar performance and put on arguably one of the best fights the division had ever seen. The result was a draw and therefore, it was immediately run back by the UFC.

In the second outing, ‘The Assassin Baby’ secured a win with a dominant performance and left no doubt as to who the best at 125-pounds is. Given that the first fight was so competitive and Moreno secured a dominant win in the second fight, an immediate rematch does not make a lot of sense. Figueiredo might have to fight other names and earn a few wins before he can challenge for the flyweight belt once again.
