“I Was in Jail for a Little Bit” – Anthony Joshua Recalls Tough Times While Growing Up

The world knows Anthony Joshua for the magic he creates inside the boxing ring. Over the past few years, the Brit has risen to the peak of the sport and he is the unified heavyweight champ of the world today. Joshua has seen a cracking boxing run until now, thus overpowering every opponent of his way. With that, he’s turned himself into an absolute star and is living a lush life unquestionably.

However, things weren’t the same for him while growing up. In fact, ‘AJ’ was jailed at a young age and he had to go through enough consequences.

In a recent interaction with Jourdan Dunn of Vogue, Joshua spilled some beans about his dreadful time in jail.

“I had left school, and I was a Jack the Lad, you know what I mean? My mum had moved to London. I didn’t want to leave Watford, so I was moving from one auntie’s house to another auntie’s house.”

“Then I got my own little place when I was like, 16, 17, and I stopped all sports and stuff like that. That’s when I started, you know, smoking a bit, doing my own thing. And then I got banned from my area in Watford. I wasn’t allowed to go back. I was in jail for a little bit, and on tag for about 14 months.” he said.

This entire anecdote hampered Joshua a bit and as a result, he trained himself to be in his finest shape and not be that skinny guy anymore. Ever since then, he never looked back and only worked on his boxing prowess. And today, he sits at the peak of the dynamic big men’s division.

Anthony Joshua – the best heavyweight of all time?

The 31-year-old is an absolute oppressor, and he enjoys hammering his opponents to the pulp.

Additionally, Joshua is one hard-hitting heavyweight and with his unparallel power, he has battered every opponent.

Citing his current momentum and boxing stint, it’s safe to admit that ‘AJ’ is on his pathway to becoming an all-time great of boxing. But ahead of that, he still has to test himself against some numerous names in the big men’s division.
