Patriots Rookie Mac Jones Continues To Impress as He Looks To Deliver the ‘Knockout’ to Cam Newton

The New England Patriots are still searching for life after Tom Brady. And many believe they have found the answer in Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.

The quarterback drafted 15th overall by the franchise has big expectations riding on his shoulders. Not only does he have to contend with the pressure of being the Pats’ future QB1, but also take on the responsibility of guiding the franchise back to the pinnacle of the NFL.

While Jones isn’t expected to take over the reins for the get-go given the presence of Cam Newton, he surely is making the right moves in training camp.

During a segment of the Rich Eisen Show, NFL insider Tom Curran talked about the impact Mac Jones has made at New England so far. And going by Curran’s comments, Jones certainly seems to have made quite an impression.

“They (Patriots) are agog… Word is that they sense Jones is further along than any rookie quarterback they’ve had pass through the system, period. Since 2000,” said Curran.

Talking about Jones’ ability to grasp the new system and responsibilities, Curran said that the Patriots are throwing all that they have got at Mac Jones.

“He just gets what he’s expected to do and he’s shown this ability and the aptitude needed. They are putting a lot on him already in the passing camp and in the minicamp.

They want to see how much he can handle so that when training camp begins, it can be a competition,” he added.

Cam Newton though still remains the man many believe to dress up as the Patriots QB1 come Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season. But Mac Jones is certainly looking to deliver the knockout blow which would see him officially take over the reins.

“Bill (Belichick) loves Cam Newton. And I think that Mack Jones has to win by knockout over everybody,” said Curran.

Mac Jones is no stranger to success. Winning the national championship with the Crimson Tide last season, he knows what it takes to lead a winning roster.

And given his impressive start to life at Foxboro, it’s only a matter of time the Patriots promote him as their starting signal-caller.
