Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: penultimate DLC character is Kazuya from Tekken
Nintendo’s E3 2021 presentation has revealed the second-to-last fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s DLC: Kazuya Mishima from Tekken.
For E3 2021, many suspected that Nintendo would just announce both the remaining DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during its Nintendo Direct. While that wasn’t the case, we still saw another third-party inclusion make their debut: Kazuya Mishima from the Tekken series.
A more in-depth look at the character is planned for later this month on June 28, but the trailer demonstrates his playstyle in action. At a first glance, he appears to function very similarly to how he does in the Tekken series.
He is also shown to be capable of transforming into his devil form, with his Final Smash being lifted wholesale from Tekken 7’s final boss fight.
The trailer even references how Kazuya and his family have a tendency to throw each other off of cliff edges, with him dumping several other Smash fighters into lava (except for Kirby who naturally floats away).
It’s kind of surprising that it took Tekken this long to get a proper character in Smash Bros. Bandai Namco, Tekken’s publisher, has assisted development on the Smash series since the 3DS and Wii U games.
Kazuya’s father, Heihachi, has been included as a Mii Fighter costume before, and he also makes a cameo appearance in the new Tekken stage that will be included with Kazuya.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available on Nintendo Switch.
