APPLE has released an urgent update for older iPhones to protect them from hackers.

The update also covers iPod Touch and iPad models that aren’t able to install iOS 13 or higher because of their age.

The update is called iOS 12.5.4.

You can get it if you’ve got an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

Unfortunately, even older iPhone models still won’t have access to it.

Owners of an iPod touch 6th generation, iPad Air, iPad mini 2 or the iPad mini 3 can also update to the new safer software.

Apple states in the release notes that: “This update provides important security updates and is recommended for all users.”

The update aims to remove any vulnerable code that could cause memory corruption issues.

It also tackles a security flaw that could let cybercriminals take control of your iPhone by running malicious codes.

Apple said that it’s “aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited”.

How to update iOS and iPadOS

To update your iOS software on your iPhone or iPad you first need to go to Settings.

Then scroll to “General”, click it and then click “Software Update”.

You’ll need to be connected to WiFi to select “download and install”.

In other news, seven new iPhones could be on their way this year as an Apple filing appears to confirm multiple new models.

Apple has had to pay millions of dollars to a woman whose explicit videos and images were shared online by people repairing her iPhone.

Spotify has launched a new “Only You” feature for its Android and iOS app.
