The Queen is a Line of Duty fan and watched show ‘during her toughest months’
Line of Duty had the whole country hooked earlier this year as series six aired on BBC One – and it turns out even the Queen was tuning in to see AC-12 crack down on police corruption.
Show creator Jed Mercurio said he was ‘honoured’ following a new report in the Sunday Times, which states Lizzy is a huge fan.
Jed replied to a tweet from journalist Roya Nikkhah that read: ‘The Queen is a @Line_of_duty fan. During her toughest months, The Gaffer of Windsor Castle found distraction and entertainment tuning into @jed_mercurio’s saga of bent coppers starring @Vicky_McClure @martin_compston and Adrian Dunbar @thesundaytimes.’
‘We are honoured,’ Jed wrote in reply.
Many viewers will be pleased to know that when lockdown was at its strictest, and we were all looking to TV for an escape, even the Queen was tuning in to see the gang sucking diesel.
Now we know that the Queen is a Line of Duty fan, there’s only one thing for it – if Ted Hasings isn’t made a Sir on the New Year’s Honours list, there’ll be uproar.
We’d love to know what the Queen makes of the reveal which saw the identity of H confirmed.
Many were also left reeling recently after it was claimed the mystery surrounding H might not be completely wrapped up, with actor Adrian hinting there might be another series in the works after all.
Series seven of Line of Duty is yet to be confirmed but with the series six finale breaking records as the most watched episode of a drama in the 21st Century, it seems unlikely the thriller is over just yet.
The Queen isn’t the only one to recognise the drama. It was recently announced that Line Of Duty has come out on top with the most nominations at this year’s TV Choice Awards.
The BBC’s hugely successful crime series has scored four nods with the trio all nominated in the best actor and best actress categories.
It’s not the first story involving the Queen and TV to break this year, either. It comes after it was reported that the monarch signed off on Prince Harry’s mental health docuseries with Oprah Winfrey as she had no idea he would be talking about the Royal Family.
The Me You Don’t See became available to watch on Apple TV+ recently, with a follow-up show due to be broadcast this Friday. In the series, Harry accused his family of neglecting his wife Meghan Markle and discussed the trauma of attending Princess Diana’s funeral as a child.
Line of Duty is available to watch on BBC One.
