‘He Had Never Been to Africa’- Colby Covington Says Kamaru Usman Is Pretending to Be a Nigerian

The war of words between Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman has always been extremely exciting. Both men are at the top of their game and are two of the very best in the division. After his recent title defenses, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has looked seemingly unbeatable. However, the person who came the closest to beating him might be his next opponent.

In a recent interview, ‘Chaos’ shared his thoughts on the comments made by Kamaru Usman following Leon Edwards’ win over Nate Diaz at UFC 263.

He said, “You know I make of those comments, Marty Juiceman, the CEO of EPO, he’s desperate, he is so desperate that he fled the country. He fled the country to somewhere off-grid so he can turn his phone on airplane mode and not have to answer calls from Hunter Campbell and Dana White. Because he knows he needs to sign that contract against me…. The guy has never been to Africa.”

Covington continued, “He was born in Dallas, Texas. He went to college in Nebraska. So he is trying to save face and act like he is Nigerian, go to Africa and act like he is an African and this and that. But he is desperate. He is running from me, he is hiding. And he is not answering calls from the UFC to get this contract signed between me and him.”

Colby Covington vs Kamaru Usman is the fight to make in the welterweight division

Usman has been an extremely active champion thus far in 2021. The champion has defended his belt twice before the mid-way mark of 2021. Not only did he defend his belt, but he has also been knocking challengers out, something he was not known for previously.

Usman has always been lukewarm towards the idea of fighting Covington, stating that he had not seen enough activity to entice him to a fight against Covington. There were doubts that if Leon Edwards put on an impressive performance against Diaz at UFC 263, he might leapfrog ‘Chaos’ to a title shot.

However, in the post-fight press conference, Dana White stated once again that Covington is next despite an impressive performance from Edwards.
