Pittsburgh Steelers OC Makes Ben Roethlisberger Sound Untouchable In His Recent Comments

Big Ben Roethlisberger has been around in the NFL for quite some time now. Entering his 18th season in the league, the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback flirted with the idea of retiring this past season.

But putting that behind him, Roethlisberger is set to don the yellow and black yet again to lead the steel city’s offense for 2021. A two-time Super Bowl champion, Ben Roethlisberger has done his bit to earn the respect of the franchise and its fans.

And going by the recent statement made by the team’s offensive coordinator, it sounds like Big Ben will have full autonomy when he takes to the field next season.

Steelers will do what Ben Roethlisberger wants them to do

Speaking to the Associated Press, Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada talked about his side’s strategy heading into the new season. And it seems the first-year offensive coordinator has left that at the hands of Ben Roethlisberger.

“I think in football, it is 11 men doing their job, but the quarterback is their focal point,” Canada said“We are going to do what Ben wants to do and how Ben wants to do it. Our job is putting every player in a position to make plays.”

Canada was promoted by the Steelers after the side decided not to renew the contract of previous offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner. The side that started 11-0 last year saw a major dip in form towards the season end.

Part of that could be blamed on the side’s lack of a running game and their inability to find suitable alternatives. With Canada at the helm, the side is likely to incorporate tweaks that will aid their 39-year-old QB who struggled towards the latter half of the season.

“We would certainly continue to use tempo, and use the things that Ben is very good at to let the offense be the most productive it can possibly be,” Canada said. “There are changes with terminology and how we are calling things, which has been a challenge for Ben, but he has been great at learning it. I don’t have any concern about Ben doing anything we want him to do.”

The Steelers lost steam last season at the worst time possible. Bowing out to division rivals Cleveland Browns in the Divisional Round, the side will look to bounce back in 2021. A season that could be Roethlisberger’s last shot at winning another Super Bowl.
