Great British Sewing Bee winner Serena Baker celebrated in the only way one knows how – in one of her finest frocks from the contest, downing a bottle of bubbles.

To put it bluntly, she’s a bit of a legend.

The medical student, who was 21 at the time of filming, was crowned winner of the Great British Sewing Bee last night, beating runners up Raph and Rebecca in a nail-biting finish.

Following the finale airing on BBC One last night, in her Instagram Stories, Serena shared a shot of herself holding onto the gong, wearing the electric turquoise dress that sealed her place in the finale, chugging away on a bottle of bubbles.

She simply captioned the shot: ‘This is all.’

After being handed her trophy while her mother and the previous contestants watched on from Zoom, Serena – the youngest ever winner of The Great British Sewing Bee- said: ‘That’s mental! When they said my name I was like, “is this real?” It feels like a dream.

‘I’ve made things that I never thought I would be able to make, I’ve learned things about myself, the whole thing has just been life-changing basically. It’s just been amazing.’

In an agonisingly close final, Serena triumphed with a stunning canary yellow off the shoulder gown modelled by one of her closest friends which ultimately clinched the prize.

Judge Patrick Grant said: ‘I love it. It looks simple but I love it.’

An enthusiastic Esme Young added: ‘I have this thing about really, really, really talented sewers.

‘What I always say is they have fairy dust that they throw over the garment and it doesn’t even look like it’s been touched by a human hand. And that’s what your sewing is like.’

The Great British Sewing Bee is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
