NASCAR Driver Cody Ware to Make his IndyCar Debut at Road America
This weekend, the IndyCar Series will have a new face in the paddock. As per the latest reports, NASCAR driver Cody Ware will make his debut at Road America with Dale Coyne Racing. In addition to that, he will pilot the #52 car and will partner ex F1 driver Romain Grosjean.
Earlier this year, Ware had a chance to test an Indy car at the Sebring International Raceway. It also helped that he took part in a test at Road America to garner some more experience.

“To be a part of an NTT IndyCar Series race is such an honor, and a surreal experience for me. I never would’ve thought that I would ever go down the open wheel route for a multitude of reasons,” said Ware. “But thanks to RWR, Dale Coyne Racing, and Biohaven / Nurtec ODT I am getting an opportunity to compete at the highest level of open wheel motorsport in the US. Road America is an ideal place to make my debut and I am so excited to learn and soak it all in. Having two great teammates such as Romain Grosjean and Ed Jones will help take some of the edge off the learning curve if only a little.”
Get to know NASCAR Cup Series driver Cody Ware
Aside from his NASCAR Cup and Xfinity gig, Cody Ware competed in the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans. To his delight, he and his co-drivers managed to finish fourth in the LMP2 Class. Suffice to say, this only added to the 25-year-old’s diverse racing pedigree. That includes a 2014 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America series rookie of the year and a 2019/2020 LMP2 Asian Le Mans Championship.
On an interesting note, this Indy gig was supposed to be a 3-4 race sponsorship deal. However, one thing led to another and the situation evolved into a full-season commitment with the #51 Honda. Now, Cody Ware will run this Friday in his first official IndyCar Series practice session. Meanwhile, JJ Yeley deputises for him in the Ally 400 at the Nashville Superspeedway in the NASCAR Cup Series.
