OPINION: 2021 NFL MVP Prediction: Aaron Rodgers Repeat or Time for Patrick Mahomes To Shine?

The 2020 NFL season saw the Tampa Bay Buccaneers sweep Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs in a lopsided Super Bowl tie to be crowned world champions. But interestingly, the 2020 NFL MVP not part of the clash. 

Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers was crowned the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2020 thanks to his 48 touchdown season. Winding back the clock, Rodgers put on a show as his Packers dominated the NFC. 

But unfortunately, even his heroics wasn’t enough to see his side through to the Super Bowl. With Aaron Rodgers now a doubt heading into the 2o21 NFL season due to his ongoing feud with the Packers management, one can’t help but ask, who might be the 2021 NFL MVP?

Patrick Mahomes a firm favorite for 2021 NFL MVP award

With Rodgers remaining an uncertainty, the firm favorite for next season’s MVP award is undoubtedly Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs QB has made had the best start to life in the NFL for a player of his position.

In just four seasons in the league, Mahomes has accumulated over 100 passing touchdowns, has made two visits to the Super Bowl, won a Super Bowl ring, and been named league MVP in his first full season as the Chiefs starting QB in 2019.

With 38 touchdowns last season, Mahomes was in the running to be league MVP had it not been for Aaron Rodgers’ astounding renaissance campaign. 

With the Chiefs bringing in reinforcements for the O-line, Mahomes will now have more time in hand to do his magic. Only 25 and yet to hit his peak, Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs is our odds-on favorite to win next season’s MVP award. 

Derrick Henry – the proverbial dark horse

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry is going to smash NFL rushing records in 2021. You heard it here first. The running back has been phenomenal over the past few seasons and there’s every reason to believe that he is only going to get better.

In 2020, King Henry as he is referred to, put up over 2,000 rushing yards. Only the seventh player in NFL history to achieve this feat, Henry is set to have another monster year in 2021. 

With the Tennessee Titans drafting Julio Jones, NFL defenses will now be forced to put man coverage on both Jones and AJ Brown, leaving the door wide open for Henry to rush all over them.
