Rege-Jean Page didn’t want family to be ‘overwhelmed by his backside’ watching his Bridgerton sex scenes
Rege-Jean Page has admitted that he found it ‘overwhelming’ to watch his Bridgerton sex scenes.
The actor, who is known for playing the dashing Duke of Hastings in the hugely popular Netflix drama, said he and his family were not ‘sufficiently prepared’ for the awkwardness of seeing the romantic moments on screen.
The show quickly became known for its titillating sex scenes after arriving earlier this year, which were applauded for the portrayal of the female gaze.
‘No one was sufficiently prepared. I wasn’t sufficiently prepared, and I was there,’ Rege-Jean told The Hollywood Reporter about watching the scenes back.
‘I think people were grateful for the intensity of the romantic aspects of Bridgerton. I’m not sure how grateful I was to watch it for myself.’
The 31-year-old actor went on to say: ‘It was overwhelming. But I think people were looking to be overwhelmed.’
Speaking about watching the intimate scenes with his loved ones, he said: ‘My family doesn’t want to be overwhelmed by my backside, specifically, too often, but they’ll take it on this occasion because everyone seems to be terribly happy.’
Rege-Jean became a sex symbol after shooting to fame with the role, but the 31-year-old said it wouldn’t overshadow his acting.
He continued: ‘I don’t think I need to scream, because hopefully I can do that in the work.’
Rege-Jean announced he was leaving the show earlier this year, sparking rumours he’s set to take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig.
While many viewers were left disappointed to see him leave, the news may not have come as too much of a surprise to those who have read the books. Readers will have already been aware that the second instalment will place a greater focus on the love story of Daphne’s older brother Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey.
Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor has revealed that the Duke of Hastings will still be ‘referred to a lot’ in season two of the Netflix drama, despite Regé-Jean’s exit.
Bridgerton is available to stream on Netflix now.
