Sebastian Vettel admits he has no regrets on joining Aston Martin instead of Red Bull for 2021

During the 2020 F1 season, Red Bull had a major dilemma to resolve. Although youngster Alexander Albon raced for the Austrian outfit in 2020, he didn’t fully convince Red Bull for a seat in 2021.

While they had this issue, Sebastian Vettel didn’t have a seat secured for the 2021 season after Ferrari released him. However, Aston Martin, who were Racing Point in 2020, decided to sign the 33-year-old for the 2021 season.

Despite the possibility of returning to the team where he won four world titles, Vettel expressed no regrets. In addition, the German believes returning to Red Bull wasn’t an option this season. At the press conference earlier today, he said, “No, I don’t regret, and I don’t think it was an option.

“Obviously, I decided to go a new direction and join a new team with Aston Martin on a new journey, and I’m very happy about that.

Vettel: Happy for Checo joining Red Bull this season

Perez’s future in F1 was uncertain despite an impressive season in 2020. However, Red Bull ended that uncertainty by signing the Mexican for the 2021 season. The former Racing Point driver took first race win in the Sakhir Grand Prix, while finishing 4th in the driver’s championship last season.

Vettel believes the 31-year-old deserves his seat because of his performances over the years. “In all honesty, and this I really mean from the heart, I’m very happy that Checo found a great seat. Because he deserves it. He’s shown it, not just with the win.

He’s shown it in the last 10 years, or something like that, that he’s been in F1. He deserves to be in a great car.”

With the two drivers tasting success in Baku, their focus shifts to this weekend. Although they are in different battles, they will hope to continue their good form in the French Grand Prix.
